Adopt A Bear a fundraising success

Sircuit’s Adopt A Bear Auction last Saturday was a huge success, bringing in over $10,000 for PLWHA and the Gay & Lesbian Switchboard. Wayne Nicol of Lucrezia and Desade, who made the bears, told Southern Star he was thrilled with the $10,651 fundraising total.
-œI was a bit worried about auctioning them all off at the one event – I thought people might get buying fatigue by the end and the interest would drop off. But I was wrong -“ they all achieved a really good result, and none went for less than $400. I’m thrilled they made so much money for charity.
MC Luke Gallagher (pictured, right) banged the gavel for each of the 12 bears, some of whom proved immensely popular with the crowd.
-œWe had one collector in the front row bidding enthusiastically who went home with four or five bears. The one that raised the most money was Tradie Bear, who went for around $2000, said Nicol
The success of the event has made Nicol think about the possibility of future fundraising projects in the same vein.
-œWhen you finish these things, you think ‘God, that was so much work’, but having raised nearly $11,000 for charity, I’m keen to do something similar again, he said.
