The organisers of the 2010 Cologne Gay Games are on the hunt for an official theme song, and songwriters from all over the world -” even Australia -” are being invited to contribute their compositions.
If your song is chosen, it’ll be the tune that represents the Gay Games to the world -” it’ll be recorded for use in advertising, released on CD and available in online stores.
Before you pull out the accordion or start laying down some gangsta rhymes, be aware the organisers are looking for a certain type of song. It needs to be a catchy, English-lyric ballad in 4:4 time. Think of some of the best inspirational sporting ballads in recent history -” Whitney Houston’s 1988 Seoul Olympics theme One Moment in Time, or Delta Goodrem’s 2006 soaring Commonwealth Games number Together We Are One.
Organisers stress the musical and lyrical quality of the song should be extraordinary, without any gender specification. It should highlight the spirit of the Gay Games with respect to sports and community. The Gay Games motto, -œbe part of it, should be incorporated -” not necessarily in those exact words, but certainly in the message of the lyrics.
The deadline to enter your song is July 15, so there are only a few weeks to get your creative juices flowing. Send your composition via email (as an mp3 or a web link) to firstname.lastname@example.org Writers can submit up to two songs each -” any more than two and your entry will be disqualified.
Once entries close, a board of experts will choose the top five compositions submitted, which will then be entered into a grand final. This live event will see the winner selected by a panel of celebrities and gay and lesbian identities.
