WITH THE TIGER – INEZ BARANAY
Novelist Inez Baranay’s exploration of the cliché of ‘spiritual India’ couldn’t have come at a better time, arriving when Hollywood blockbuster Eat Pray Love spends a good proportion of its screen time playing into that very cliché.
Tiger is a ‘queering’ of Somerset Maugham’s 1944 novel The Razor’s Edge.
Maugham was in the closet and homosexuality was but hinted at in his fiction, whereas With The Tiger features an openly gay narrator, more gay characters and gay culture, and a bisexual protagonist.
