Believe it or not, Peter Madden, Christian Democratic Party candidate for Sydney in the NSW state election (he hopes to unseat Clover Moore), and I have something in common.
Madden dislikes ‘hypertolerance’, which he says has led to the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras becoming a ‘rebellion’, a fomenter of violence and anarchy. I don’t care for hypertolerance either. The hypertolerance we extend to people like him.
Not only is this man not fit to stand for Parliament, he is not even fit to call himself a Christian.
Madden uses every demagogue’s trick: appeals to the war dead, the protection of our children, the fate of the Roman Empire. But he’s not homophobic: no, he only opposes bad homosexuals.
Standing before Sydney’s Anzac Memorial he filmed a rabble-rousing ‘battle cry’ for a holy war on human sacrifice (i.e. abortion), ‘the paganistic anti-Christian front for the homosexual lobby’ (better known as ‘the Greens’), and especially, Mardi Gras.
He paints a lurid picture of Mardi Gras filling Hyde Park with ‘tens of thousands’ of drunken randy children of 13, 14, 15, 16 indulging in violence, beatings, debauchery and ‘forms of sex they cannot really begin to understand’.
He calls for 10,000 warriors with no qualms about exercising their ‘God-given authority’ to ‘rise up and shut down the Mardi Gras’.
This ‘purely spiritual battle’ was due to take place at the Anzac Memorial, but police concerns for the safety of the holy warriors have seen it moved to Martin Place.
Despite the violent rhetoric — for what is war but organised violence — Madden ‘loves’ homosexuals — ‘bruised and confused individuals’, he says. But not ‘the militant homosexual lobby’.
American ‘Christians’ used the same propaganda techniques in Uganda, generating a virulent anti-gay pogrom driven by brainwashed clergymen, tabloid papers, and a president eager to divert attention from his own shortcomings.
A bill before Parliament would punish homosexuality by death. Outed gays have been beaten, sacked, hounded from their homes. A prominent activist has been beaten to death with a hammer.
Truly the Kingdom of God has come to Africa with fire and a sword.
We cannot afford to tolerate this same evil in our own country.
