Melbourne’s largest queer arts and cultural festival Midsumma is looking for one lucky DJ to perform at next year’s festival.

The festival will host its first national DJ search in the coming weeks, with organisers looking for up-and-coming Aussie talent to play to over 3,000 party-goers at Midsumma’s popular outdoor dance party, T Dance.

Three heats will be held over the next few weeks, including at Melbourne nightspot the GH on November 6. Applications close on November 3.

Another heat will take place in South Australia at the Feast Festival on November 19. Applications close on November 11.

Heats will be held in Perth at Connections Nightclub this Saturday as part of the annual Pride WA festival, however, applications are now closed.

Interstate winners will be flown to Melbourne to perform at T Dance on January 15.

To enter, visit and complete the entry form and upload a sample of your best work to the Midsumma DJ Search Sound Cloud.

A Midsumma spokeswoman has confirmed the winner of the DJ search will not be paid for the gig, but said the competition is about offering unknown DJs a chance to perform at the popular event.

“Midsumma is looking to elevate young, aspiring DJ’s. We wish to be a platform to launch new talent,” she said.

“Midsumma is only possible due to the dedication of hundreds of volunteers who donate their time and skill to this community event. These skills range from office work, to marketing and design to performers and hosts.”

“The winner of the national DJ search will be flown to Melbourne to play alongside other DJ’s and performers, in what we hope will lead to future exposure and gigs for them.”
