Following Nymphia Wind’s historic win in the finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16, Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-Wen has congratulated the drag queen on her new crown.

Taking to the final stage in a scintillating outfit, the Taiwanese queen Nymphia faced off against runner-up Sapphira Cristál in a climactic lip-sync battle set to Kylie Minogue’s Padam Padam.

A real highlight of this performance was when Nymphia removed the outer layer of her outfit to reveal a number of black balloons in the wait, soaring towards the sky as she boldly lip-synced as they flew all around her.

Though both queens turned in highly admirable performances, there can only be one winner; dressed in her usual mix of gold and yellow, Nymphia was given the crown and sceptre to be named the queen of Drag Race season 16.

Congratulations for Nymphia

Nymphia received plenty of uproarious support for her momentous win, most notably from Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-Wen.

“Congratulations to you, Nymphia Wind, for being so accomplished in the difficult art form of drag, and for being the first Taiwanese to take the stage and win on RuPaul’s Drag Race,” the President shared on Instagram.

“Right after being crowned queen, you said ‘Taiwan, this is for you.’ Taiwan thanks you for living fearlessly.”

Ing-Wen has been a staunch supporter of LGBTQIA+ rights in Taiwan, and played an instrumental role in the introduction of same-sex marriage laws to the country.

Other words of support came from singer Ariana Grande who shared her elation at the win, as well as fellow Asian drag queen Kahmora Hall, who said: “Congrats 💛💛💛 Making Asia & Asian Americans proud.”
