QSQUEERSCREEN executives announced today that that the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board is a new sponsor of the 2014 Queerscreen Mardi Gras Film Festival running on February 13 – 23 in Sydney.

The partnership has been created and managed by Pink Media Group and Initiative.

For 20 years, the Mardi Gras Film Festival has showcased classic and contemporary LGBTI-themed films to Sydney audiences of more than 15,000 fans.

The home of film and one of the world’s top destinations for LGBTI travelers, Los Angeles is also home to Outfest – one of the world’s longest-running and the most prestigious LGBTI film festivals.

“We are delighted to be partnering with the world’s number one film city and the world’s longest running queer festival,” Queerscreen festival director Paul Struthers said.

“Australia is one of LA’s largest overseas markets and LA Tourism is thrilled to partner with Queerscreen to celebrate LGBT contributions to world cinema,” said Michael McDowell, LA Tourism’s Vice President for Arts and Culture and Affinity Groups.

“Los Angeles’ signature creative industries – entertainment, design, education, science and more – have made the city a magnet for extraordinarily talented LGBT individuals for more than a century.

“We invite Australia’s LGBT community to visit Los Angeles to experience one of the world’s most dynamic and LGBT-friendly cities firsthand and to attend our own outstanding Outfest LGBT film festival in July.”

Pink Media Group managing director Ben Mulcahy said: “Our recent research has shown that the LGBTI community is equally likely to holiday internationally as domestically. Los Angeles and Sydney are top destinations.”

Over the past three decades, Outfest has showcased thousands of films from around the world and has educated and mentored hundreds of emerging filmmakers.

Featuring more than 200 films, nine venues, panel discussions, parties and more than 55,000 attendees, Outfest 2014 takes place in Los Angeles from July 10 – 20, 2014.
