THE organisers of Mardi Gras Film Festival have announced the dates for the 2015 festival.
Run as part of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival, Queer Screen’s signature event will take place from February 19 to March 5 at Event Cinemas George Street.
The teaser events include a screening of German movie Land of Storms, co-presented with the Windows on Europe Festival on November 18; the NSW premiere of documentary Transmission: The Journey from AIDS to HIV on November 19, which includes special guest Michael Kirby; a free LGBTI film forum on November 28, and a trivia night on December 7.
Tickets for the Mardi Gras Film Festival will go on sale on November 20 and the teaser guide will be featured inside the Star Observer’s December edition, which will also be published on this date.
Meanwhile, My Queer Career, Australia’s richest prize for locall- made LGBTI short films, is still open for entries.
Regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious awards for LGBTI filmmakers, My Queer Career’s major prize includes $3000 cash. Other prizes include in-kind production facilities and support to the value of at least $7000.
The winning film also gains automatic entry to the Iris Prize, the world’s largest prize for a gay and lesbian short film, held in Cardiff, Wales.
The winner of My Queer Career 2014, All God’s Creatures by Brendon McDonall, recently won this year’s Iris Prize.
