Sweet and strong

Sweet and strong

Dreaming about hitting the big time, Julie Kember packed her bags and headed to Sydney. Now her time has come and the spotlight is on the Western Australian singer.

Kember prefers not to be pigeonholed musically but she sounds a little acoustic rock with a touch of pop. Currently on a national tour, she will perform at the Basement this Thursday 7 May.

Kember has travelled the world with her guitar and spent time recording in Taiwan. She has since released two singles, Crazy and Strongest Girl in the World, that did well on the Australian independent charts.

Now she’s ready to release her first album Sugar & Stone.

It is important to me to tell a story with my songs, to capture a moment of angst or sadness, enlightenment or happiness and hopefully touch people in some way through my own experiences, Kember told Sydney Star Observer.

My musical journey has had many ups and downs but I remain sweet and strong and I think that’s very important. I look forward to playing for the GLBT community and reaching them.

info: General admission tickets for her Basement show are $15 and available from thebasement.com.au. For more on Julie Kember visit juliekember.com.
