Vanessa returns to the strip

Tobin Saunders is putting the wig and make-up back on to entertain people from outside the predictable drag paradigm.

This means Vanessa Wagner is coming to town. She’ll be at Slide on Saturday 9 May for a night called Back on the Strip Show. The savvy political activist and social commentator is revisiting the good old days of Jamie and Vanessa.

The Jamie and Vanessa days were an extension and wonderfully fresh take on earlier alternative underground Sydney shenanigans, Wagner told Sydney Star Observer.

Everyone and anyone is welcome to a Vanessa event, that’s how it has always been. If you like to smile, dance, pick up and hear some intelligent hosting then it’s your night.

DJs include Ben Drayton and Stephen Allkins. Miss Suzie Q (Miss Nude Australia and Penthouse Pet) will also perform on the night and will be joined by Trash Vaudeville, famous for his hoop work and stupendously queer stripping.

If people are sick of the robo-drag and that Video Hits mentality that pervades the strip then this is your night, Wagner said.

You’ll get foxy music, wicked shows, Vanessa’s razor sharp wit, a cheap cocktail and a really friendly crowd.

info: Pre-sale tickets can be bought from So Music and Spank Records. Tickets are $15 + BF. Remainder tickets will be sold at the door.
