Artists helping ALSO
Melbourne gay author Matthew Lang will join with drag performer Kaye Sera, the Melbourne Rainbow Band, Hares & Hyenas and queer artist Fei Mok next week for the launch of his new book, The Secret of Talmor Manor, which will double as a fundraising event for the ALSO Foundation.
The event, which Sera will host, will feature entertainment, an auction of Mok’s paintings, and a reading from Lang’s debut novel.
Entry is free, and a portion of all sales of Lang’s book and the Melbourne Rainbow Band’s new CD, 15 & Fabulous, will be donated to the ALSO Foundation, along with the proceeds of the art auction.
“I wanted a launch that was more than a self-congratulatory booze-up,” Lang said.
“The ALSO Foundation has done so much to support the GLBTIQ community in the past, and I feel it’s our turn to give a little back and hopefully keep it running.”
The Secret of Talmor Manor is a gay fantasy novel released by American publisher MLR Press, which publishes gay fiction. It follows Jake Yoshimoto, a man struggling to uncover the secret of a forgotten Victorian manor, as well as his attraction to a turn-of-the-20th-century ghost of the same sex.
info: The fundraising launch is at Hares & Hyenas, Fitzroy on Friday, May 20, 7pm.
