Fathers Day for rainbow families

Fathers Day for rainbow families

Sperm donors, gay dads and all involved in making LGBTI families are welcome as Rainbow Babies and Kids celebrate Fathers Day this September.

The not-for-profit LGBT family group will for the first time have a Fathers Day picnic in the wake of their successful Mothers Day picnic and ongoing rainbow babies playgroups.

Rainbow Babies and Kids organiser Nadine Sharpe is hoping for a fun day of food and activities for LGBTI families.

“This is a chance to welcome all those important people who play a part in creating, raising or caring for our rainbow families,” she said.

Sharpe said Fathers Day was a good opportunity for Rainbow Babies and Kids to showcase the diverse range of people who help raise children in LGBT families.

“We want to recognise and support all manifestations of family and Fathers Day is a good opportunity to appreciate the role that all the kind men have played in enabling the creation of our families,” she said.

The picnic will be held on September 10, the Saturday after Fathers Day. Attendees are encouraged to bring a plate of food to share at the centre’s kitchen facilities. Children can expect a jumping castle, toys and play equipment.
