Go black and white or get on your bike

It’s time to get your formal wear to the cleaners or polish up your finest leatherwear for a night of classed-up frivolity at the Dykes on Bikes’ Black and White Ball on Saturday 13 September at the Jets Sports Club in Tempe.

The ball is open to men and women alike who are looking for a great night out and a way to show their support for the Dykes on Bikes.

There are only two provisos, says the event organiser Webby: jeans and T-shirts won’t cut it and, if you get out of line, you will be answering to her.

This is a night where people get the opportunity to dress up, so it’s definitely not something you wear your runners to, Webby told Sydney Star Observer.

You don’t have to wear black and white, but it is an occasion to look smart. That being said, we have people who turn up in their leathers as well as people who wear tuxes and last year I even had one guy turn up in a Superman outfit.

As always, the best-dressed competition will be a hotly contested part of the evening, which will also feature a range of entertainment including performances from the lesbian band, Cherry, whose lead singer has been described as a female version of AC/DC front man Bon Scott.

Naomi Palmer will be standing in as MC for the evening.

There will be a range of drag queens and kings taking to the stage and, for anyone who attended last year’s event, one of the biggest drawcards is sure to be Trinity Porter, the seductive stripper.

It’s going to be a night of fun where people can also catch up, Webby said.

The great thing about it is that anyone can go. It’s not like a dance party. There will be tables and seats for the older people but plenty of space to dance and move around for the younger ones.

It really is just a great night where people can get together, have a chat, experience something a bit new and do all of that while they help us to raise some money for charity.

The Black and White Ball raised $1500 last year, which was put towards the Dykes on Bikes’ nominated charities -” the Gay and Lesbian Counselling Service and Monica’s Doggy Rescue.
