Mental Health Month grants

The NSW Mental Health Association (MHA) and ACON have teamed up to provide grants as part of Mental Health Month.

Organisations have received MHA grants to run events specifically for the LGBTI community during October.

Grants have been provided to Wear It Purple, Regional Youth Support Services Inc., CoastOut Festival, Macarthur Youth Health Services, and the Harbour City Bears.

“MHA has run Mental Health Month activities annually since the 1980s and was extremely pleased to partner with ACON’s ‘Peace of Mind’ program in support of the LGBTI community this year,” MHA CEO Elizabeth Priestley said.

According to ACON, research has revealed higher rates of depression in the LGBTI community than in the general population. In particular, homosexual and bisexual people are reported to be twice as likely to experience anxiety disorders than the broader population.
