New monthly gay event in Melbourne’s outskirts

A NEW monthly LGBTI-friendly party that is all-inclusive and based in the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula areas of Victoria will launch this weekend.

Called Queer Peninsula, the party isĀ organised in partnership with the Frankston Dolphins Aussie Rules football club and will he held at the Frankston Dolphins Social Club.

Organiser Steve Toms said the Dolphins approached him to lead the organising committee for Queer PeninsulaĀ for the local LGBTI community and they realised it was a necessary step to take.

“There is a bustling andĀ vibrant gay andĀ lesbian community in Frankston andĀ the Mornington Peninsula,” he said.

“However, there is now currently no nightlife [or] specific events to cater to that community.

“The Frankston Dolphins FC have made the decision to lead the way in having this monthly event to provide a safe space for gay and lesbians andĀ their friends.”

The opening event on Saturday will feature food, music and free entry. LGBTI sports advocate and beyondblue ambassador Jason Ball hasĀ confirmed he will attend.

Queer Peninsula will be held on the second Saturday of every month.
