Queer film festival gets TV deal

The Queer Fruits Film Festival will be partly broadcast on television after a deal was struck with Foxtel channel Aurora TV. During the 2013 Mardi Gras, Aurora will broadcast four one-hour Queer Fruits Film Festival programs.

“Queer Fruits Film Festival programs showcase some of the bright stars of queer filmmaking that have been screened at QFFF over the past four years and also a few special films that have not been screened,” festival director Akkadia Ford said.

“This is such a rare opportunity for GLBTIQ filmmakers to be broadcast in Australia and a huge boost for QFFF – the only regionally produced GLBTIQ film festival in Australia.”

Full details of the broadcast dates and programs will be made later in the year, with local filmmakers being featured, including the award-winning documentary Undressing Vanessa about drag icon Vanessa Wagner.

The 2012 QFFF festival will screen on December 29-30 at the Lismore and District Workers Club
