WHILE the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (BGF) is celebrating its 30th anniversary year, one of its most loved, creative and delicious annual events is not far behind and is looking to the world of fairy tales as inspiration for 2014.

Now in its 27th year, the BGF Bake Off has become a popular mainstay of the Sydney LGBTI calendar that seems to get bigger each year.

The event that now calls the iconic Imperial Hotel as its home will this year be asking entries to look to their favourite fairy tales as inspiration for their extravagant, scrumptious and at times, controversial baked goods.

Patrick Abboud from SBS2’s The Feed will host the festivities along with the camp talents of Aunty Mavis and Candy Box as your Maitre D.

However, the standard has been set high this year and the Bake Off has announced that world-renowned patissier, creator of Sydney’s favourite macaroons and Masterchef nightmare the Croquembouche, Adrian Zumbo will be judging this year’s entries.

Zumbo will be nutting out this year’s best cakes alongside head judge and Sydney drag and culinary icon, Claire de Lune. Both will also be joined by Masterchef finalist Chistina Batista and Marty Boetz from Cooks Co-Op on the Hawkesbury River, who has also cooked for one of Melbourne’s best restaurants, Longrain.

The BGF hopes that this year’s competition will help the foundation continue its vital fundraising efforts to continue supporting people living with HIV and AIDS.

“This year we’re hoping to make the Bake Off an even greater fundraising success so we can continue to provide vital and diverse services to our growing client base,” BBF chief executive David Riddell said.

“I’d like to thank the generosity of everyone that has donated their time, in-kind support and goodwill. Special thanks go to our event sponsor SkinDNA Clinics, to the Imperial Hotel for their amazing support and providing the venue, and to Imagination for the creative artwork.”

Registration for entries closes on Monday July 28 and you can find out more information and register at bgf.org.au/events/bake-off

The 27th BGF Bake Off will be held on Sunday August 3 at the Imperial Hotel in Erskineville. Doors open at 2pm and live auctions begin at 4pm.
