Drag queens sing about name rights in light of Facebook changes

AS social media site Facebook continues to receive backlash over its decision to force personal accounts to use their “legal name”‘ rather than their stage name, a group of drag queens have put together a parody video that shows why you should never get on their bad side.

The latest in the #mynameis or #namegate controversy sees the drag performers, who call themselves the Legendary Children of Atlanta, perform a parody of The Ting Tings’ That’s Not My Name.

The video comes a few days after drag artist RuPaul condemned Facebook for “stripping the rights” of drag queens in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“In showbiz, there’s no such thing as bad publicity as long as they spell your name right,” RuPaul said.

“It’s bad policy when Facebook strips the rights of creative individuals who have blossomed into something even more fabulous than the name their mama gave them.”

The Star Observer understands that the policy itself still remains unchanged, but Facebook has given users two weeks notice to adjust profiles to display their legal name or face having them deleted.
