Gay men’s DIY group
Queensland’s Healthy Communities is keen to assist in the development a gay men’s group focusing on home repairs.
The idea was raised at a recent community meeting convened by Healthy Communities regarding the experiences of LGBT people during the 2011 Brisbane floods. Concern was expressed about the need to become more self-reliant through learning home-repair skills.
The meeting canvassed the creation of a safe space for gay men to learn or refresh practical skills in emergency home repairs, carpentry, furniture-making and correct tool-handling techniques.
Healthy Communities is calling for expressions of interest from gay men in Brisbane who would like to become part of the group.
The organisation would also like to hear from gay men who have a workshed or space, tools, skills and ‘tradie’ wisdom to share.
