Syphilis when HIV negative

Syphilis when HIV negative

Rates of syphilis in gay men are high, but there are things you can do to protect yourself and your sexual partners, such as;

• Always wear a condom when having anal sex with casual partners;
• Avoid contact with any sore or rash on the genitals, arse or mouth. Touching syphilis sores or rashes easily transmits the infection.
• If you are told you may have been in contact with someone with syphilis, go to your GP or local Sexual Health Clinic and get tested and treated.
• It is strongly recommended that you don’t have sex until you have got the ‘all clear’ from your doctor, as you may infect others or get re-infected while on treatment.
