$20K still needed: Midsumma
Melbourne queer arts and cultural festival Midsumma needs to raise more than $20,000 in the next two weeks to stage the 2013 event.
The festival is using crowd-funding platform Pozible to help raise the cash.
Organisers say they need community support to keep next year’s Carnival Day free. Midsumma put out a call for financial assistance in May and is again urging people to chip in.
“We’re hoping to raise $25,000 for our 25th anniversary to help keep us financially viable and to help keep Carnival free,” festival manager Monique Thorpe said.
Donations made will only go to Midsumma if they reach their goal of $25,000 by July 21. The fundraiser has so far only received around $2,500.
An estimated 100,000 people attend the Midsumma Carnival, the festival’s opening event.
