Bandt to be deputy leader

Bandt to be deputy leader

Lower House Greens MP Adam Bandt  has been elected deputy leader of the Australian Greens.

New Greens leader Christine Milne said she was pleased with the decision.

“I’m really looking forward to working together with him as well as our whole party room,” she said in a statement.

“Adam has a tremendous grasp of the issues confronting Australia, and I know he shares my passion to start a national conversation about what an Australian society values and wants to promote as we face the challenges of the century.”

Bandt was elected into the seat of Melbourne in 2010, campaigning strongly on the issue of gay marriage.

The party leadership shakeup comes after the announcement Greens Senator Bob Brown will retire from the party and his Senate seat.

  1. Oh Dave, thats right, Gays have no rights at all and are aarrested by the dozens every day. Oh please.

  2. The Greens are inspirational. While Labor and Liberal still advocate for exclusion in the Federal Equal Opportunity Act,the Greens are actually fighting for Civil Rights. The basic rights not to be sacked at work for your sexuality, to be excluded from aged care services, and to know your superannuation will go where you want it to go, are fundamental rights that Labor and Liberal stand against for same-sex attracted Australians. For instance, both Labor and Liberal colluded when laws were passed on our super, to deny all people automatic protection in private super.

In this land of plenty, some of us are excluded from many basic rights simply due to our sexuality.

  3. Greens are what I would consider to be just a quarter of a party with a leader no different to Gillard. Greens got no clue and power at all

  4. Now he’s deputy-leader, it will be interesting to see whether Adam is driven by community concern, or ego?

  5. Go get em Adam. Congratulations. Please come up to Darkest Queensland and stick it up these rednecks.
