Britney’s video worth the hype?

Britney’s video worth the hype?

After 14 days of teaser clips and unprecedented internet buzz, Britney’s Hold It Against Me video clip has finally arrived.

Unfortunately the Jonas Åkerlund-directed extravaganza doesn’t quite match the hype – at least I don’t think so.

It’s bright, colourful and features men in underwear but the bizarre plot – which finds Britney fighting herself and floating above dancers in a giant wedding dress – doesn’t fit the song’s lyrics or tone.

Not that her fans seem to notice or care given the comments on YouTube.

One observer declared Hold It Against Me “the best video of the year”, while another raved about it being “a masterpiece”.

Given that the song has already fallen out of the top 10 in most countries, Britney will be hoping the video revives her chart fortunes – particularly after Lady Gaga snatched her first week sales record in three days with Born This Way.

Watch the clip (below) and let us know what you think – is this a triumph or a trainwreck?

  1. its crap………… despite the effort her production team have obvioulsy gone to with this, she should seriously retire

  2. I guess you are not getting the video at all.

As you may know, the director likes to express in a bizarre way. Well, he expanded his vision and the meaning of the lyrics to Britney’s career not just sex, not a boy, it means “Hey you people: Would you hold it against me” that is why he represented all her career and the times that she had fight to media and to herself.

Remember that media made Britney the Hollywood’s good girl, and when she became a sexy, drunk bitch we didn’t like it but at the end she is still being there, doing what she knows best, SELL!!

I like lady Gaga, and know compare is not good, but I think that if singers before her (Blondie, Madonna, Britney, etc.) hadn’t had open people’s minds through their extravaganza she won’t be more than a queer singer and nobody would care about her music.

  3. I am a HUGE Britney fan but even I was disappointed with the clip. It was a decent clip but not as great as it needed to be to reverse the single’s sagging chart fortunes.

But Britney is definitely back =D Can’t wait for Femme Fatale!

  4. I can’t decide what to think of the video as a whole, as I’m seriously put off by the blatant and irrelevant product placement. My only take away message from it is, “Anyone on PlentyofFish.com want to come over and watch a DVD on my SONY TV?”
