DUFFY – ENDLESSLY
Since the release of Duffy’s Rockferry, one of the best (and best-selling) albums of 2008, the singer has suffered something of a backlash, with critics picking apart the grating nature of her voice, always an acquired taste.
Endlessly was Duffy’s chance to prove the critics wrong, and as a 10-track album, there’s no margin for error.
Sadly, at least half of the songs here just don’t measure up. Single Well, Well, Well, opener My Boy and the disco-tinged Lovestruck inject a bit of life into proceedings, but for too much of the album Duffy’s drowning in syrupy arrangements and underwritten songs.
