Eliza Doolittle – Self Titled

Doolittle’s debut follows a similar sonic blueprint to Lily Allen’s Alright, Still: summery, reggae-lite rhythms, performed in a sing-song Cockney lilt.

While the imitation’s never as good as the original, her best songs (the rollicking Skinny Genes, the UK smash hit Pack Up) are built on old soul samples and have the sort of ear worm choruses that at first seem too sugary, but soon get stuck in your head.
