Gay Games 2014 decision looms

The International Federation of Gay Games (FGG) will announce the host city for the 2014 Gay Games on September 29 at its annual meeting to be held in Cologne, Germany. The FGG will select the host city from three finalists, all from the USA: Boston, Massachusetts; Cleveland, Ohio and Washington, DC.
The announcement is the culmination of a year-long site selection process. Following declarations of interest from more than a dozen cities, three cities submitted formal bid documents in March.
After a three-month-long Q&A process between the bid groups and the FGG, inspection teams travelled to all three cities in July and August to view proposed venues, to gauge community and civic support, and to review operational, financial and marketing plans.
Previous Gay Games have been held in San Francisco (1982, 1986), Vancouver (1990), New York (1994), Amsterdam (1998), Sydney (2002), and Chicago (2006). The 2010 Gay Games will take place in Cologne, Germany, from July 31 to August 7 2010.

  1. Have the Gay Games turned a profit for any city running them? Or are they a financial burden left behind for the people of the host city to carry like the Olympics seems to have become?
