Childhood favourite Barbie just came out, and the internet has immediately embraced her as a gay icon.
The BarbieStyle Instagram account recently posted a photo of Barbie sitting with another female doll, both in Love Wins shirts.
“Me and @BarbieStyle supporting equal rights because #LOVEWINS,” Song posted on her own Instagram.
“Or as some of you have speculated, maybe we’re secretly dating.”
Social media users are loving Barbie as a queer icon.
“Y’all late. Barbie was gay as fuck when I played with Barbies,” quipped one tweeter.
“If Barbie is officially gay, does that mean Ken can FINALLY come out?” asked another.
Some have been quick to point out that Barbie could just as well be bi or pansexual rather than gay—but yes, they know she’s just a doll.
Fascinatingly, many people have identified the Aimee Song doll’s hair as “the bisexual haircut”.
“Barbie is a bisexual/pansexual icon and I’m here for it,” tweeted one fan.
“I stan Barbie, a bi icon,” posted another person.

me: bi erasure is unfortunately very common and too easy to perpetuate, we must work on not forcing people to conform to “a side”
