Mitcham dives for gold

Champion Australian diver Matthew Mitcham is set to fight it out for a gold medal in his favoured 10m individual platform event at the Commonwealth Games tonight, Australian time.

Mitcham has now won three silver medals at the Games for the 1m springboard, the 10m platform synchro and the 3m springboard synchro.

Mitcham hopes to repeat his success win at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in which he took gold in the 10m individual platform event.

During a media interview yesterday, the out diver labeled former Western Bulldogs footballer Jason Akermanis as “narrow minded” for his comments earlier in the year that gay footballers should stay in the closet.
