Molly Meldrum in critical condition

Australian music icon Molly Meldrum is said to be in a critical condition after falling at his Richmond home.

Meldrum is currently being treated at The Alfred Hospital.

“He fell from a ladder, at some height, he was unconscious when we arrived,” an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman told media earlier tonight.

“He has been placed in an induced coma and taken to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.”

It’s understood Meldrum was hanging Christmas decorations at the time of the fall.

The Herald Sun has reported the music guru may have broken his ribs, punctured a lung and has undergone surgery to relieve pressure on his brain caused by bleeding.

  1. Dear Editor

I must admit I haven’t thought about it like that and seeing how I frequent this site allot I take what I said back – I come here to see the latest on what the gay community is doing, whats on the scene etc SSO isnt just a magazine.. It’s a resource.

Hear Hear to the ads keeping SSO afloat!

  2. Why is this article dated the 15th of December when you only put this up on the 16th of Dec?

Ed: It was posted last night at around 11 – that’s the 15th.

  3. I met Molly at a MG Party a few years ago, on the edge of the dance floor in the RHI. A wonderful, funny and friendly person. A “what you see is what you get” type of guy.

Here’s wishing him all the best, and hoping for a full recovery. Thoughts to his partner and friends.

  4. I agree Sherry. Everything that is “gay” is always sexual in nature. Even advertisements for community groups and events either have a sexy person on the cover or the wording of the ad is written with a cheeky sexual remark.

No wonder vanity and narcissism rule the gay community. We are so focused on sex and image that we just loose ourselves… and this is why when we get older we become lonesome from tragic relationships and drown in a sea of partying and sex..

I have stopped reading SSO at work because of that stupid ad with the guy down his pants – It’s either that or the ads for sex shop cruise lounge.. or some sleazy date site

ED: Appreciate what you are saying guys, but I would remind you both the paper and the website are produced at no cost to you.
It is paid for by advertisers who are allowed to use whatever imagery they see fit, within the confines of the law.
It requires a significant number of people and costs a significant amount of money to produce both the weekly paper and the website for you to enjoy free of charge.
Further, sexy and sexualised are two very different things. And sexualised imagery exists everywhere, not just in gay press.
And if you care to take a look at all the adverts in the paper each week, you’ll notice the vast majority of it isn’t sexualised.

  5. All the best to a wonderful man…..

And can i say one thing to the SSO. We fight every day for equality, against the earbashings of homophobics who claim we’re all about sex. Well, SSO, you’re proving them right. Here we have a very serious and upsetting article about Molly, and right next to him is an ad with some guy with his hands down his pants.

Seriously, when is the community going to grow up? Do we have to have these images of guys playing with themselves on every digital and printed page?
I can never share stories with family from here because i find it so embarrassing. Not because I’m les, but because it’s really in the gutter. I’m not an old fogie, just someone with taste and a bit of self-respect and class.

Sorry to hijack, but was really upset at this news for Molly and seeing the ad really ***** me off more than usual given the serious nature of the article. Thanks.
