ALP, Libs give HIV commitments

Both major parties have now responded to demands to restore diluted HIV funding levels.

The Coalition has agreed to a 2008/09 review of the state arrangements that have left many states with rising new infection rates.

Labor has committed to ensuring the next National HIV Strategy is adequately funded and the partnership approach is reinvigorated.

Labor also agreed to examine the idea of a Chronic Illness Health Care Card, similar to a Seniors Card, proposed by AFAO along with diabetes and MS lobby groups. And also review the Highly Specialised Drugs Programme to provide more convenient access to anti-retroviral therapies for people living with HIV.

The full responses are available from the AFAO website.
