Bent TV is back in Melbourne

Melbourne’s GLBTI television show Bent TV is set to return to Channel 31 and is calling on the community for help.

The long-running show, which has been in hiatus since 2009, is looking for a fresh batch of volunteers and members to help get back on its feet.

Bent TV media spokesman Vince Golding said the program needed new equipment as Channel 31 makes the transition to digital television, money, and an injection of new talent and ideas for the show.

“What we’ve been doing this year is a bit of a transformation … we’ve got a new board, so there’s been quite a lot of changes,” Golding said.

“Even though we haven’t been on air there’s still a lot of work that’s been going on.”

Golding said viewers can expect a new format for the half-hour show, moving from a talk-based program to a variety show with live performances and skits, as well as covering community issues.

“We’re trying to get some fresh new talent in, so it will be a little bit different from the usual format,” he said.

Bent TV has been running since 1993 and relies solely on public membership and sponsorship to stay on air.

New volunteers are needed to fill key production roles including directors, producers, scriptwriters, camera operators, technical assistants, make-up artists and presenters as well as board positions, administration and marketing.

“We’re looking for people in all different areas as well. It’s not so much about skill as enthusiasm,” Golding said.

  1. Bent TV was good in the old days, however it seems to be failing every year, through bad decisions and management and leaving a trail of debts behind, then attempting to “relaunch” itself time and time again. This article is almost word for word what is released every year…

The question is why are they not getting the sponsorship, the volunteers and the members, the answer is because they have pretty much used and abused most of the talent and supporters out there. I am one of them, and sadly they continue this every year, and i predict the same article with a “new” board will be started next year, once the current ones get sick of it and leave. Sadly this repeats and has done for a long time
