Big Queer Nation returns

Big Queer Nation returns

There’s good news for those hoping to have a little fun while keeping themselves warm this winter. Yes, Big Queer Nation is being staged once again during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend following the success of the event last year.

To be held on Saturday 11 June at Fox Studios in the Hordern, Dome and Stage 11, this year’s party will again boast an impressive line-up of DJs from Australia, plus an international DJ and diva who will perform live. All DJs and performers will be announced in coming weeks.

Organisers say they hope to introduce partygoers to a range of new music they may never have experienced before.

And this year Sydney Pride has moved its annual event Pride Week forward a week to coincide with the Big Queer Nation party and include it in its program of events. Around 8,000 revellers are expected to attend the party.

Big Queer Nation was first held in 2004 when Sydney’s traditional winter party Hand In Hand -“ a fundraiser for community health organisation ACON -“ joined forces with Home nightclub’s regular Queer Nation party.

The inaugural event raised more than $32,500 for ACON. Last year’s international guests included DJ Victor Calderone and singer Kristine W.

Meanwhile a regular Queer Nation party is being held this coming Anzac Day long weekend.

It’s to be held on Sunday 24 April at Home nightclub and the theme is Gay Paris. Tickets are $55 (plus booking fee) from www.queernation.com.au and the fun gets under way at the incredibly respectable hour of 8pm.

Some of the best DJs in Sydney have been lined up to play at the Queer Nation party.

They include Kate Monroe, Alex Taylor, Jake Kilby, Amber Savage, Luke Leal, Chip, Shigeki, Peter Fam, Dirty D, Mandy Rollins, Feisty, Stephen Allkins, Sista P and Scott Pullen.
