Facebook has no room for civil recognition

A group has been created on the social networking site Facebook lobbying for a change in the way members can identify their relationships. The group out of the UK is called “Facebook – add ‘Civil Partnership’ to relationship status”, and it is lobbying Facebook operators to add an additional option on the relationship status bar to recognise gay and lesbian members in civil partnerships. According to group administrator Tony Jackson in a message on the site, he received the following message from a Facebook operator:  “Unfortunately, the functionality you are requesting is not currently available.” The group was created in August, and it now has over 3,000 members.
