Iconic Sydney gay bar Midnight Shift sale halted

LONG-running Sydney bar and nightclub Midnight Shift has reportedly been taken off the market amid concerns its sale could have ended its association with the city’s LGBTI community.

The Star Observer exclusively revealed in March that the venue was cutting its hours to just four days a well with NSW’s tough lockout laws blamed.

At the time, former venue coordinator Leigh Harder said: “We didn’t want this to happen but it’s something we have had to if we want to keep going. We need to adapt to survive.”

The following month, the venue was put up for sale with no guarantee it would remain LGBTI-friendly.

However, the management of the venue have now announced they have “rejected all current offers for sale”.

“The venue will remain open to serve the LGBT community,” the operator said in a statement to media outlets.

“The board of directors has decided to continue and expand the current operation including the re-opening of the bar level on Wednesdays and hiring new management staff including a new promotions manager to bring new concepts and ideas to the club level.”

Promises of “more quality entertainment” have been made with an unplugged live lounge on Fridays with live singers and musicians.

Tora’s Drag Race will continue on Thursday nights with the Locked Out drag production on Saturdays, and karaoke on Sundays.
