Kylie sends Mardi Gras love

Last week, the organisers of the Kylie’s Impossible Princesses Mardi Gras float were wondering what did they have to do to get a message through from the diva herself.

This week, they are spinning around with excitement that La Minogue has acknowledged their float and even sent a message of good luck.

After a story appeared in last week’s Star reporting that Minogue had all but ignored the organisers’ attempts to let her know about a float celebrating her 20-year music career, representatives from the pint-sized singer’s camp made contact to wish them all the very best.

We received word from one of her representatives that she could not be here to join us but wished us all the best, Nicholas Hutchings, creative director of Kylie’s Impossible Princesses float, said.

Then we received another message saying Kylie loved the idea of what we were doing and said she would love to show her support in some way. The next thing we knew, a message had appeared on her website.

On Minogue’s personal website, www.kylie.com, she posted the following message:

I want to wish everyone participating in the -˜Kylie 2007′ float at this year’s Sydney Mardi Gras the very best of luck. Make the costumes great because you KNOW I’ll be watching!

Whether you’re a Marching Boy, Mechanic or a Showgirl, enjoy yourself and Happy Mardi Gras! Love, Kylie x.

Hutchings said he was thrilled to bits about the message, and says it has now driven the group to make their float even better.

I said to all our crew that we have to put in extra effort as the Green Fairy is watching over us, he said, referring to her Moulin Rouge character.

This is all great as it is raising awareness for Mardi Gras. It is getting the city talking and reminding people Mardi Gras is coming. It’s the responsibility of our float and of all the other floats that we get people to turn up and celebrate.
