Local citizen of the year

Nominations are now open for the 2009 NSW Local Citizen of the Year award to recognise local Joe Blows who have done their part to help out their community.

Volunteering, working for a community organisation or even playing a role in organising a local sporting group are all worthy tasks that make someone eligible for the awards. You can nominate a friend or family member who has simply made one outstanding achievement over the past 12 months which reflects well on their community.

There are countless individuals across NSW who contribute their knowledge, time and talents to the benefit of their local community, said the chairman of the Australia Day Council of NSW, the Honourable Michael Egan.

We are proud to provide the community with a program that enables them to recognise these individuals whose achievements exemplify what it means to be Australian.

The awards, which are sponsored by Australia Post, will be announced on Australia Day, January 26 at a series of ceremonies around the country.

info: To nominate someone, go to www.australiaday.com.au or contact your local council office.
