Madonna gets filthy for Queerscreen

The material girl herself Madonna will round up the proceedings of 2009’s Mardi Gras Film Festival. Ok, she might not be on hand to walk down the red carpet, but she will be making her directorial and screenwriting debut with Filth and Wisdom, starring Eugene Hutz – otherwise known as the front man of gypsy/punk outfit Gogol Bordello. Echoing Hutz’s own background, Filth and Wisdom centres on A.K., a Ukrainian immigrant who fronts a punk band, who will do anything to maintain his dreams of rock stardom, including taking on the role as a cross-dressing dominatrix for straight married men.

info: Filth and Wisdom plays on Thursday March 5, 7.30 pm at the Randwick Ritz. For more information head to www.queerscreen.com.au. The full Mardi Gras Film Festival Guide is on the streets now.
