Madonna and Charli xcx have officially teamed up, the pair slated to release a new remix of Madonna’s Confessions II track “Danceteria”, dubbed “Danceteria Afterhours”, later this week.
Taking to Instagram, Madonna delivered a snippet of the new track, wherein she and Charli can be seen dancing, the pair declaring “Everyone here is a work of art”.
“Let’s take it to the East side baby……,” Madonna’s caption reads.
It comes after Madonna, who leads this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with 13 nominations, announced 21 September that she and Charli had put a new spin on her 2026 track.
Originally named for the legendary New York nightclub The Queen of Pop frequented early in her career, this latest take on “Danceteria”, to be released on Thursday 24 September through Warner Records, will celebrate the early influences that shaped both artists.
Madonna & Charli’s Rumoured Rivalry
The collaboration follows months of speculated rivalry between Madonna and Charli. Earlier this year, a pointed lyric from Charli’s song “Rock Music” declared “the dance floor is dead”. This was followed by a response from Madonna on Instagram declaring that if a dance floor feels dead, the wrong music is playing.
Naturally, fans interpreted this exchange as evidence of tension between the two stars. These rumours were reignited the following month after Madonna and Charli were spotted sitting next to each other at a Saint Laurent fashion show in late June.
Another “Afterhours” Collab
Of course, this is not the first Confessions II track in recent history to be remade into an iconic “afterhours” remix. Just last month, Madonna announced a similar collaboration with Kylie Minogue. The duo’s fresh take on “Love Sensation”, a fan-favourite song from Madonna’s latest Confessions II album, was released by Warner Records in early August.
The song dropped just days after the two artists debuted it at a surprise Amsterdam WorldPride performance. After crashing the Madonna’s Club Confessions X MISTR, the pair performed the remix before finishing off with a duet of Sorry, the hit dance-pop track Madonna’s 2005 Confessions on a Dance Floor.
