May marriage action

May marriage action

It’s the month for marriage, with rallies set to take place around Australia on May 12 to call for same-sex marriage to be legalised.

Comedians Tom Ballard and Claire Hooper will lead the charge in Sydney at the Town Hall, while crowds will gather at Melbourne’s State Library and Brisbane’s CBD on the same day.

Community Action Against Homophobia (CAAH) co-convenor Cat Rose urged the community to take part.

“We give our thanks to Tom and Claire and hope that their effort to attend spurs others to get up and demand with us that urgent action is taken to address this inescusable inequality,” Rose said.

“We had the most inspiring and vibrant show of support for this cause that this country has ever seen at the National Labor Party Conference just this December.

“Ten thousand people rallied, but both sides of government have shown that we are going to have to continue our efforts to ensure that we receive justice.”

There will also be rallies in Perth, Canberra and Adelaide. For details, see below:

  1. Hey SSO Team,
I’m thinking there might be some lost in translation info about Perth’s rally, as I believe the location is now Stirling Gardens, not Forrest Chase in the CBD.

There has been alot of effort by the organizers (particularly on the Facebook Event- http://www.facebook.com/events/348693935163190/ ) to let Perth people know that the rally won’t be at Forrest Chase this year, so now I’m desperately confused!

Ed: Thanks, Jill. We’ve now updated the post.
