Positive Pottery tribunal win

Complainants representing the Blacktown Outdoors Group’s Positive Pottery class say they have been vindicated by a conciliation session at the Anti-Discrimination Board (ADB) on complaints they made against the Blacktown Arts and Crafts Group.

“Blacktown Outdoors Group and Positive Pottery are pleased with the result … ,” Mike Moore and Jeff Lees said in a statement.

“[T]his result vindicates and clears the group’s name of the false and malicious accusations, and discrimination that was levelled at Blacktown Outdoors Group and Positive Pottery students and tutors.

“We would like to thank the HIV Legal Service for their help and support.”

The Blacktown Arts and Crafts Group had demanded that Positive Pottery tutors obtain a ‘working with children’ report from police when there were no children in their class, and the HIV statuses of group participants were disclosed to others sharing the facilities without their knowledge or permission.

The group was told it could no longer use the facility when it refused to undergo the police background check, and what the Blacktown Arts and Crafts Group said were complaints from other users.
