Serving aces for Sydney’s gay youth

Australia’s summer of tennis is on the verge of eruption with Sydney’s Medibank International tickets now on sale.
But Amazon, Sydney’s first lesbian tennis club, isn’t waiting for the new year to get into the spirit – it’s throwing a summer sausage sizzle at Camperdown Tennis Courts.
The club will also hold a raffle on the day, with all proceeds going to GLBT youth support organisation Twenty10.
“We wanted to give something back to the community,” Amazon social director Lisa Howard said.
“Twenty10 is an organisation worth supporting – they’ve done some great work in the past.
“I’m not sure how much we’ll raise but everything helps.”
There will be five courts open on the day but participants will need to bring their own racquets, balls, seating and, of course, sun-protection gear.
The event is an excellent opportunity for people to move away from Sydney’s club scene and participate in healthy, fun and energising activities, while also supporting a great cause.
Amazon’s tennis event is at Camperdown Tennis Courts, Piddock St, Camperdown, on 9 December from 10am. The sausage sizzle costs $5pp, and raffle tickets are $2 – first prize is a barbecue, second is a Christmas hamper. Bookings: email [email protected] or phone 0414 635 361 before 1 December.
