State marriage equality push goes online

The NSW cross-party parliamentary working group for marriage equality launched its official website on Wednesday.

Independent Sydney MLA Alex Greenwich, who is in the working party, said the website would be a valuable tool in the push for marriage equality.

“Aside from providing people with information, we’ll be engaging the community in a range of campaigning activities in the New Year, and the website will help us do that” Greenwich said.

The working party, which comprises Greenwich, National MLC Trevor Sharpe, Labor MLC Penny Sharpe, Greens MLC Cate Faehrmann and Liberal MLA Bruce Notley-Smith, was established in September to introduce same-sex marriage legislation into NSW Parliament. In November three members of the group gave notice of a marriage equality bill in the Legislative Council, the state Upper House.

The bill is expected to be debated in May next year following the conclusion of a state government inquiry.
