Sydney’s answer to Eurovision

Sydney’s answer to Eurovision

The Newtown Neighbourhood Centre is calling on musicians, singers, songwriters and filmmakers to enter the Sydneyvision Song Contest.

The contest pits Sydney’s suburbs against each other in a test of songwriting smarts.

Contestants must submit a video of an original song in which the name of a Sydney suburb features in the lyrics.

To maintain the ‘high cultural standards’ set by Eurovision, each video entry must also include a performer doing the following: blowing a kiss to the camera, winking shamelessly at the camera and throwing off one article of clothing while performing.

Entries close on July 31. Fourteen finalists will be selected to be screened at the Sydneyvision Grand Final at the Dendy Newtown on August 22, where the winning song will be chosen.

The Newtown Neighbourhood Centre is a not-for-profit organisation which serves disadvantaged people. Money generated at the event goes back to funding the centre and its services.

  1. I went last year and it was hilarious, good fun, and going to a worthy cause. Some of the songs actually weren’t bad either.
