New headspace centre in Melbourne

Young Melburnians dealing with sexuality and/or gender issues will now find help at one of the oldest football grounds in Australia.

Victoria Park, the former Collingwood Magpies grounds, will be home to the newest headspace centre. Located at the Collingwood Football Club Community Centre, it will be the closest headspace service to Melbourne’s CBD.

CEO Chris Tanti said the new centre was the “perfect spot” as it was close to public transport, making it easily accessible.

Collingwood was the 38th headspace centre to open since it began in 2006 with plans for 90 centres by 2015.

Identity issues featured in a headspace awareness campaign launched in April, raising awareness of headspace’s services for young people dealing with issues including sexuality and/or gender.

In Melbourne, Minus18 is the main service providing support for young LGBTI people.
