Rangers season winds up

The Rangers B season ended this weekend after a 2-0 defeat to Marrickville in the playoffs. It was one of the best performances of the year, capping off a fine season which saw the Rangers come fourth following a prior winless season in their inaugural year.

Rangers kicked off the game, attacking Marrickville’s goal. However a swift counter attack down the right hand side saw a cleanly hit shot and a very early goal. Rangers took the resulting kick-off and spent much of the rest of the half taking it to the opposition, with striker Danny posing an ever-present threat by running rings around the defenders.

The game became more finely balanced in the second half, as Marrickville pushed for the crucial second goal to take the match, with a number of fine saves from goalie Ben keeping them at bay. The breakthrough came twenty minutes in as a looping cross into the goalmouth was bundled in. This spurred the Rangers on and the following play saw Danny hit the post and the ball cruelly rebounding away.

However it was not to be, and shortly afterwards the referee blew the whistle for full time, and it was all over for the year.

Rangers B now look forward to the summer 6 aside competition, starting in November. If you are interesting in joining the Rangers, contact them at [email protected].
