Twin skating events for QLD

Skateaway Albany Creek and Caloundra Rollerdrome are holding Family Gay Skates during Easter.

Skateaway Albany Creek proprietor Marty Surman has been involved in conducting events for the gay community for the past three years and said he was keen to continue the partnership.

“We love having such a diverse community of patrons at Skateaway, and encourage the family-friendly atmosphere of the centre to ensure everyone is welcome,” he said.

Surman recently bought the Caloundra Rollerdrome Skating Centre, which will hold its first gay skate event.

“What makes these events even more special is that we have teamed up with [Brisbane] Pride Festival, and for each skater who attends we will donate $3 to Pride,” Skateaway/Rollerdrome events manager Jodie Johnson-Garufo said.

The Skateaway Albany Creek event will be held on Sunday, April 8, 6.30-8.30pm, with the Caloundra Rollerdrome event held on April 9, 6.30-8.30pm. There will be a giant Easter egg given away as a lucky door prize at each event.

Both sessions are open to people of all ages, genders and sexualities, with families encouraged to attend.
