Mass outing in Syria

Gay men in Syria’s Christian community are in a panic after a young man outed a large number of other gay Christians from the port city of Tartus to the Patriarch of the Syrian Orthodox Church in revenge for what he said was “maltreatment”.

The man passed on the men’s online profiles and full names to the church which then called their families.

The men are reportedly now being punished by their families, who are limiting their movements and access to telephones and computers.

Same-sex activity carries a penalty of up to three years in prison in Syria.
