All the king’s horses and all the kings men put me back together again …
It mightn’t have been the king with his horses and his men, but it was a lovely bunch of nurses at Liverpool Hospital.
If you didn’t make it to Heaven’s charity and fourth birthday celebrations, you missed seeing the West’s mighty queen fall off her throne.
In the excitement of the night, I was a little carefree and fell face down on to the stage. I busted one of the veins in my leg and suffered internal bleeding which caused the vein to swell to the size of a golf ball.
Luckily there were a few people around and help was quick at hand. LayDee was very quick and grabbed some paper to wipe up the blood that was pouring on to the stage, while my medical hero Sandy Bottom came to the rescue and bandaged me up.
Good friend Ian Stumbles drove me to the hospital with a little detour at Maccas on the way — I was STARVING!
The great team at Liverpool Hospital recognised me for the supermodel I am when I walked in, and I went to the front of the line, saving me having to wait goodness knows how long while the other 30 people were seen.
It’s hard being famous sometimes, but this time it really paid off, and I was only too willing to entertain the nurses in ED while they attended to my every need. Thank you.
Thank goodness all this happened at the end of our celebrations so the night was not ruined.
We had four amazing shows, all hosted by some very special guests, and it was a jam-packed evening of entertainment, dance and support.
I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped out on the night. Sorry if I’ve forgotten anyone:
The special guest hosts (Polly Petrie, Sandy Bottom, Christina Dior), every performer (too many to name), Matthew Vaughan for all your efforts on the door and organising things, the Sydney Star Observer for the countless ads and raffle prizes, Markass and Ian for spotlight, Danz Mobile DJ, Gay Matchmaker for major prize donation and Nanna Gail for an additional fourth prize and to every patron for coming along and supporting the night.
This year saw an increase in attendance and $2263 raised for the youth of Western Sydney (being distributed by ACON West).
The next Heaven Social Dance will be August 27 with the debut of our new show Drags@Work, and the return of my daughter Lola del Arté.
Kaleidoscope Social Dance also went off at its first birthday celebration. We had a great line-up of talent and celebrated with some delicious cheesecake. Numbers are steady, and hopefully this is another dance we can keep alive.
I remind everyone in Western Sydney to spread the word to your friends and attend all the social dances. They are a great alternative to going to the city and are far more convenient, a lot cheaper at the bar, and attract friendly crowds.
However, without a decent-sized crowd, these events will slowly die off (like Jupiters and Dolphins), so make sure you support them when they are on.
Talking of your support, or perhaps lack of, Candy’s Social Dance’s first night at Rio’s Brazilian Restaurant was a major flop with fewer than 30 people in attendance. Was it the location (looking at the pics, there were prison escapees there), was it the time (long weekend? everyone in the city or at the Three Sisters social dance which had more than 400 people attend) or was it the whole preparation?
I think the night is something we could all benefit from in western Sydney, but next time they really need to look at an appropriate date, higher quality entertainment, a better venue and some cross-networking with similar (and successful) nights.
Talking of western social dances, let’s go way out west for the new Pinkribbon Dance, brought to you by Jo from J&L dance costumes.
It will debut on July 30 at Lily’s, 162 Prospect Hwy, Seven Hills (entry via Quinn Ave). From 8.30pm-1am, $10 entry. For more info, search for them on Facebook.
Drag Gossip: Which of my daughters is turning into a real dive after only two years? The silly bitch resigned from her job and is pursuing her entertainment career. Is she trying to make it big in the city or maybe she is trying to make a comeback from her has-been cabaret career?
