Western Sydney sizzles in winter

Sizzle sizzle sizzle. Oh yes Western Sydney, it might be cold outside, but the venues are getting hot with events all over the place.

Will I survive this June? Drag every weekend. It’s oh so much for an old has-been like me, but if it doesn’t kill you, it can only make you stronger.

In my last column, I had the most unfortunate news that Queer Out West was suspended. As I’m sure you’re aware, we are back on air and stronger than ever.

Ratings are going through the roof, and the server even went into meltdown from overload.

A common question on many lips was who complained about us, but in true professional style, we are going to soldier on and pretend like that person doesn’t even exist.

So listen every Monday from 10pm – midnight on 89.3FM or on www.queeroutwest.com for a fun-filled evening with our new-look team of presenters including Ida Slapda, LayDee KinMee, Ian Stumbles, Sandy Bottom, Justin Scott and Gavin Prendergast.

Regular contributors to the show include Scott Abrahams, Andrew Potts and Robert Manser with gay news and headlines and we have the fabulous Maxi Shield live from the city every week with Out’n’About at 11pm(ish).

In other shocking news, Kaleidoscope Social Dance was cancelled by founder Janice Waters as she flees the country for a warmer climate. In a shock turn of events, just days after the cancellation of the event, the whole thing was back on with a new co-coordinator — ME!

This great night held at the Parramatta Golf Club has a whole new look with my daughter LayDee KinMee becoming the face of the event as hostess. I’m going to kick back and relax on this one and hide in disguise.

Join our group on Facebook for all the latest goss, and join us on July 2 for the first birthday party with guest performers Krystal Kleer and Ida Slapda.

Will I be able to cope with running two dances? Only time will tell, gorgeous.

My first baby is still going strong, and our next dance on June 25 sees us celebrating four years. We have four fabulous shows with 17 of Sydney’s finest performers donating their time to help us raise as much as we can for ACON Western Sydney.

Now, for everyone is waiting for — the LONG WEEKEND.

This is a time for everyone to let their hair down and party hard with oh so many events happening.

Saturday, June 11 sees the debut of the new Candy’s Social Dance. Starting at 10pm at Rio’s Brazilian Restaurant in Parramatta, this is sure to be a fun night with shows by Candy Cumbum, Coco Foxx and friends, with music by DJ FatCat.

I really hope the opening is a success, as I want them to run it again so I can go and check it out.

Also on Saturday 11, the Three Sisters Social Group will host its annual disco/talent quest which celebrates its 30th year, making it one of the longest running GLBT groups in the Blue Mountains.

With last year’s dance selling out, I recommend you get there early (7pm) to secure your place at the Blackheath Community Hall. Hosted by me and my daughter LayDee KinMee.

On Sunday, the Grand Costume Ball will take place at the Fairmont Resort, but unfortunately for some, this event is sold out. This will definitely mean a busy dance on the Saturday.

Drag Gossip: Which Western Sydney diva had a real diva turn when she arrived for a performance to find the show had been moved from the auditorium to the lounge area? Luckily for her, she’s a real supermodel and her embarrassing outburst was overlooked. She was even re-booked for a show for the male bowling group.

Til next time gorgeous!!!
