New club night Spunk set to launch at Phoenix

NEW club night Spunk will launch at Phoenix next week, with DJs Baby Bear (Dave Whittaker) and Feisty (Mel Fitzpatrick) playing alongside special guest DJ Amanda Louise.

The DJs said the party is really all about the music and the people.

“Everyone is a spunk in their own way and we hope people will express it,” said Fitzpatrick.

They hope the night will be something different with an underground vibe but a broader range of musical styles than some other parties Whittaker and Fitzpatrick have been involved with.

“Phoenix is a place which carries plenty of great memories for a lot of people in the community,” said Whittaker.

“Spunk will be a welcoming place for everyone with a blend of musical styles, deep house, tech house and techno.

“We want our guest DJs to play what they love, not what they feel they should play. As long as we keep it interesting for us and our patrons, everyone should be happy.”

With Phoenix set to close in August, Whittaker said it will be a good chance to farewell a place that has been an important community space for decades.

“We hope people will enjoy the reasonable bar prices and have catch up with friends and a dance to remember good times,” he said.

“It looks like we’ll have to find another venue for future parties.”
